Who We Are

Who We Are

How it all started?

Unbeknownst to each other, young people met in 2012 and formed what they called "The Family". They were searching for meaning and belonging in a time of change. Their diverse backgrounds and common purpose made them a valuable team, giving humanitarian assistance to displaced people, hoping that the message of hope spread through their diversity and contributed to building a better future. “The Family” grew and its mission persisted despite the departure of most of its founders. In the following years, one of them developed the "House of Peace," a virtual house that houses an ever-expanding family not only in one country, as well as the initial humanitarian mission of promoting peace in society and advocating for conflict sensitivity. “The House of Peace" in Lebanon is registered as "Thread of Peace" in 2019 as a tribute to one of our social peace initiatives conducted by "House of Peace".

“The reactions of the people we distribute the olive jars to is priceless. It fills my heart to see all these people smiling because of this simple act of kindness.” – Participant

Vision

Our vision as HOPers, is bringing together uniquely different individuals with shared values, and transforming the notion of peace into a practice of being and living, to inspire social change towards a hopeful and purposeful life.

Mission

In an inclusive and participatory way, we enhance social peace: through shifting perceptions about reality, peace, self and the other; through supporting and connecting community-based initiatives and dialogue spaces; through advancing the principles of conflict sensitivity; and through voicing grassroots perspectives, stories and aspirations.

Values

  • Promoting peace as a right for all people, and respecting diversity and gender.
  • Conflict Sensitive: Understanding and appreciating local specificities, avoiding harm and enhancing positive impact.
  • Family Oriented: Honoring our partnerships, empowering local ownership, and creating a family environment within our network of partners and peacebuilders.
  • Committed to nonviolence: Encouraging personal and collective peace initiatives as a mean for creative, positive and liberating change.

“The [social peace building] workshops have truly helped me understand how a small effort in helping or providing for others could have a great effect on the community and on oneself.” - Workshop Participant
